August is women's month and we will be focusing on some of the special women who have grabbed hold of the opportunity to start their own travel business from home. Each have different journeys but one thing remains they all have a love for travel and a passion to deliver exceptional customer service. This means they are now reaping the rewards from their efforts. Travel Counsellors changed Laura's World for the Better...
I love being a Travel Counsellor
I joined Travel Counsellors in the March 2017. Before joining Travel Counsellors, I had run my own travel agency, but had sold it and moved out of the travel industry entirely. However, I found that my love for travel and my passion for the industry just wouldn’t leave, so I began my research on the various ITC business models.
I made an appointment with Travel Counsellors and that was me! After viewing the demonstration, I knew that Travel Counsellors was right for me. A little while later I packed my bags and headed down to Cape Town to attend my 5-day induction training in Cape Town.
Being a Travel Counsellor is simply the best.
This is what being a TC has meant to me
I have the perfect work life balance and I can fit the things that are most important to me, around my business. As a Travel Counsellor, I can offer my clients a truly concierge travel service, better than I could when I had my own agency as much of my time was then taken up by administration and the responsibilities of having a shop facing agency, brings. Now as a Travel Counsellor my head office takes care of a lot of the back- end administration that it frees me up so that I can spend more time on looking after my clients and selling travel.
But on a personal level I really have a great life, one that I wouldn’t change for anything. A highlight for me is that on a Wednesday I stop working at 2 pm which is when my grandchildren get dropped off. They come and spend the rest of day with me and they sleep over until Thursday morning when their mom fetches them. My little grandson has Cerebral Palsy and caring for him is truly a full-time job! With me being able to have the grandkids over for one night in the week, it has given my son and daughter- in- law some much needed time together and a break from the kids. They are so grateful to me for this and I just love that I can help them in this way. I love spending the time with my grandkids too, so it’s a win-win.
Although I live in Pretoria, we also have a house in Hermanus and I love that I can take my business with me where ever I go. I absolutely love working from our house in Hermanus and looking out my window and watching the beautiful views.
