
Can I choose my own hours?
It’s your business, so you’re the boss. Just make sure that you’re devoting enough time to the development of your client base to give your business a solid foundation. If you’re working one hour a day and expecting incredible rewards, you might be disappointed – it’s no coincidence that our most successful Travel Counsellors are also our hardest working!

Do I have to be home-based?
The vast majority of our Travel Counsellors work from home – but if you prefer, you’re welcome to rent a non-retail office.

I'm concerned I may feel isolated. Is there any support available?
There are over 1,350 Travel Counsellors working around the clock, around the world – so you’ll always find that there’s someone to talk to if you fancy a chat! But we’re not just about webcams, messageboards and TCTV broadcasts. You’ll have plenty of ways to meet with your friends and colleagues face to face, with supplier events, training days and our prestigious Annual Conference. As a member of the TC family, we promise you’ll never feel alone.

What experience do I need?
Ideally we look for a minimum of four years recent hands on travel sales experience, selling a broad range of tour operators and products.

How long does it take to get set up?
If you are already working, you may need to serve notice, which can be anything from one to four weeks depending on your contract, and therefore the set-up is done during this period, making the transition very smooth.

How long is the initial training?
The training is held at our Head Office in Cork, and is for 4 days.

Is there a minimum sales target?
All our Travel Counsellors have to maintain a minimum of €18,000 in gross commissions in any 12 month period, however we do take into account that you will be setting your business from scratch.

How much do I get paid?
You will receive 60% of all commission that you make on each booking.

When do we get paid?
Six weeks before the client travels. You will be paid monthly by bank transfer.

Do you provide leads?
No, but we do help you to build your own loyal customer base instead.

Will you help me market my business?
Yes, we can help you develop a plan on how to market yourself in your area and you will have access to professional and effective marketing materials created by our talented team of creatives.

Is there out of hours support?
In addition to the unparalleled support provided by our team at Head Office, there are also staff on standby out of hours to assist if needed.

What happens when I go on holiday?
We all need a break – so rest assured that your business won’t suffer while you’re taking some well-earned time away! We operate a buddy system, so another Travel Counsellor will take care of your business while you are away - allowing you the time to enjoy your holiday safe in the knowledge your customers are being looked after.

Can I rely on your Head Office for my admin?
There are over 250 people at Head Office, all experts in their respective fields, with a dedicated care team in place to deal with any queries. This proven process provides consistency, continuity and a seamless service.

I’ve always enjoyed going on educational trips – will I still have that opportunity?
Yes, we have excellent relationships with all our suppliers, as well as hosting our own trips. We believe first-hand experience of a destination is vital and we encourage all our Travel Counsellors to broaden their knowledge by taking advantage of the fantastic range of educationals we offer.

Can I still employ my own staff?
Because of the unique nature of your franchise agreement with Travel Counsellors, there are no limits on your hiring of staff if you feel you need to. Additionally, you can even sell your business and realise its value at a later date!

What does it cost to become a Travel Counsellor?
If you have travel agency experience, then the cost to join us is €500 + VAT, which covers everything you need to set up your business, including the right to use the Travel Counsellors trademark and brand.

Is there an IATA licence?
Yes, you can process scheduled air bookings, and the ticketing is done by our team at head office. We also have our own consolidated rates with major airlines in both UK and Ireland.
