Every year at our Annual Conference, we nominate a local charity to support throughout the weekend. This year, we chose a charity that is very close to the hearts of many of our people – the We Love MCR charity.

Together, our Conference delegates donated an incredible £6,500 which was matched by the company, as well as adding a further £2,000 donation – taking the full amount to a grand total of £15,000. The donation will be divided equally between the We Love MCR Emergency Fund, which support the bereaved families and the people injured in the Manchester Arena attack, and the general Lord Mayor’s Charity. We were honoured to present the donation to the Lord Mayor of Manchester, Councillor Eddy Newman, at the firm's Manchester office, as part of an official visit.

The We Love MCR charity aims to support the residents of Manchester in the greatest need, supporting a wide range of projects and initiatives. Having rebranded from the Lord Mayor of Manchester’s Charity Appeal Trust in 2011, the charity has support over 140 community groups and projects in Manchester. This includes providing access to much needed funding through its ‘Community Grants Programme’, as well as providing family holidays from it’s ‘Short Breaks for All Grant Programme’.

Taking place over the weekend of the 11th – 12th November, our prestigious Annual Conference was opened by the Parrs Wood School choir, who delivered a memorable performance at the One Love Manchester memorial concert for the victims of the Manchester Arena bombings.

Kirsten Hughes, UK managing director at Travel Counsellors, said: “Every member of our Travel Counsellors team was shocked to the core following the events at the Manchester Arena, with some personally affected by the tragedy. In the months since the attack, the city has shown its resilience and solidarity, supported by fantastic charities like We Love MCR.

“Our conference is usually a time of celebration, but we felt this year should have a period of reflection and remembrance. Our business is underpinned by a sense of caring, and our 1,700 Travel Counsellors apply the same care to their local communities as they do our customers and each other, so it’s an honour to be able to provide this donation. We hope it goes some way to supporting not just those affected by the attacks, but also those less fortunate families and individuals across Manchester.”

Councillor Eddy Newman, The Lord Mayor of Manchester, said: “I want to convey my thanks to Travel Counsellors and their conference delegates for their generous donation. I know this means a lot to the people of Manchester.”
