January is my 4th month as a Travel Counsellor.
I came to Travel Counsellors with about 10 years of experience in retail and travel behind me. My first month was big, but then the honeymoon period was over and things calmed down. I won’t lie, I did rest on my laurels for a couple of weeks because in my previous role bookings came thick and fast and I never had to be proactive. Let it be said, I learnt very quickly that this isn’t the way.
The best thing that has helped me in building my business is being diligent with my marketing using ecards and Facebook, regularly posting updates on my business page. Likes/Comments are fantastic but my goal is about engagement. I aim to be constantly visible to my clients and their friends while engaging with them as much as possible with my posts always having a call to action or a reason to call me. This has worked wonders!
While I am still a relatively new starter, every month has been getting better and better. Through promoting my own experiences online, letting my clients know where I am travelling myself and sharing pictures and updates, January was my busiest and biggest yet.
Another tip... don’t be scared to ask. This isn’t just for the booking but also asking for business. I also finish every booking/documentation email with a request for clients to like/share/follow my FB page and to refer their friends and family to me reminding them that I work for myself, I am mobile and offer a more personal service. I haven’t even touched on networking yet which I know is another path to success and is definitely on my to-do list.
I can’t wait to see what the rest of 2018 has in store :)
